Scientists now say that chocolate, which used to be the ultimate sin, is a superfood that is good for you, Vitamins A & E which we’ve been taking as supplements increase risks for sorts of diseases, and those indestructible Nalgene containers that hikers used to love were leeching BPAs into the water…
Well, I’m about ready to quit after hearing the latest scientific evidence released in a joint 17 year study by Harvard Medical School, Oxford University in London, The Mayo Clinic, Stanford, MIT, and Johns Hopkins University showing conclusively that…
Sex is bad for your health.
According to the new findings, for every orgasm you have, you’ll cut approximately 1 week from your life span.
Additionally, prolonged sex causes an elevation in heart rate that taxes the cardiovascular system, and causes the release of endorphinosmegmoids that can not only clog arteries, but also can lead to faint white marks on your sheets.
Even oral sex is implicated, as oral sex for either gender can raise total carbohydrate intake over the course your normal weekly diet.
According to Doctor Richard Swelling, “The results were unambiguous. In every variable we measured, from psychological well-being to overall physical health, an increase in sexual intercourse was seen as detrimental to humans.”
In fact, I think the most surprising thing that was unveiled in these studies was that couples who had sex more than 4 times per week were 10 times more likely to be depressed and dissatisfied with their lives.
And worse, a great sex life turns out the be the #1 predictor for early divorce in married couples.

Sex improves the immune system: Researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania found that college students who had sex once or twice a week had higher levels antibodies compared to students who had less sex.
Sex improves sleep, and if you’d care to google it, improved sleep is a powerful factor in a huge array of health related benefits from immune system to heart disease to psychological well-being.
Sex eases stress, and if you’d care to google it, improved stress is a lot like improved sleep!
Sex improves bladder control in the elderly.
Sex lowers blood pressure.
Sex improves emotional well-being.
Sex reduces chronic pain, and studies have shown that it effectively reduces the pain associated with migraines.
Sex counts as exercise.
Sex improves relationships and feelings of connectedness and closeness.
Sex improves overall satisfaction with life.
In other words… let’s all commit to having more sex, better sex, and healthier, more enjoyable lives.

Wow, that’s kind of crazy. And also interesting. I don’t see anything in your text about whether the orgasms were with or without ejaculation, but if we’re talking about regular, non-yogic orgasm, I can actually believe this. It would correspond with the teachings of tantra and daoism.
I highly doubt that this is true for people who circulate the sexual energy.

You are absolutely correct. If we are talking about the non tantric sex, as you described, sex is not healthy. This has been known by those on the Spiritual path for 1000’s of years.
This does not mean that everyone should quit having sex although as everyone evolves closer
to the goal of Enlightenment, the the sex urge [lust], will naturally drop off.
Also, using sex for it’s original purpose, to create a vehicle for an incarnating Soul is, overall,
very beneficial.
Hey Dennis, not only does it go against normal thinking… it goes against scientific thinking too… and frankly it goes way against my personal spiritual thinking too.
The nice thing about using science in this case is that it’s pretty much linear, agreed upon, and unambiguous.
The “spiritual path” known by those for 1000’s of years… well, that’s another matter and is extremely subjective. I’ve found that those whose goal is enlightenment usually have very different ideas about how best to get there (quite a few recommend sex as one express route), and one thing that all those folks arguing about it have in common is that none of them are themselves enlightened.
Everyone’s spiritual path is a personal decision, and it’s made with very few facts for guidance. Whether one chooses the path of Islam (from Sunni to Shi’ite to Alawite, etc.), Christianity (from Catholic to evangelical to Coptic, etc.), Hinduism (Shaivite, Vaishnava, etc.), Judaism (Lubavich to Reconstructionist), Jainism, Bhuddism, Paganism, Anamism, Taoism, California spiritual-gumboism, non-dualistic new agism… it is ultimately a choice, and a choice with very few ramifications on health.
Now, of course, if your spiritual path is nourished by abstinence, and if you value your spiritual growth over your health, that seems like an honorable and intentional path, and I commend you for you discipline.
…And just because I can’t resist: There are quite a few famous spiritually awakened and enlightened gurus out there that were known to be extremely horny.
He Eivind, circulate energy all day if you like… but make sure you also have plenty of sex, orgasms, and ejaculation. It’s healthy AND FUN… and life is for the living.

Alex, as a man who used to look into statistic and scientific studies religiously (which is a segue into my point, by the way) statistics are almost always inaccurate. Either they don’t account for everything or, in the case of this study, the results could have been tampered with.
The data that scientists like this release can be manipulated to seem a lot worse than it is. Worst case scenario, what this means is that the study reflects the people accounted for, and not everyone else on the planet. Best case scenario, the study did not account for everything, like other problems that could exist in a relationship, or they could have just flat out lied to scare people into not having sex. I trust what I know: and what I know is that, if my parents had better sex lives (as in sex lives that were both frequent and satisfying) then they would most likely still be together and they would have been more willing to work out their problems.
Besides, Alex, look at your own life: you have a healthy sex life (I’m assuming) and you’ve lived to be almost fifty and still going strong.
You can’t trust everything you find on the internet, regardless of where it comes from.

Just FYI – there are some practices in tantra that will transmute the sexual energy and the man can ejaculate if he so chooses without loosing energy.
Energy transmutation aside (not super well documented in the scientific world), ejaculation lowers your risk of prostate cancer (very well documented in the scientific world).
In fact, as a practitioner of non-ejaculatory orgasm, over the past few years I’ve elected to increase the number of times I ejaculate each month accordingly.

I’m not saying that I disagree with what you have said but when I ejaculate, I get a runny nose and a cough. If I ejaculate more than once in a week, I will get pains in my knees. If I ejaculate 3 times in one week, I get about the nastiest cough ever. We also lose quite a lot of nutrients when ejaculating such as, zink and calcium. There are a hole lot more. According to Lloyd Lester, you lose 30% of your zink each time you ejaculate. If someone has a bad diet, I don’t think ejaculating everyday would be a good thing. How do you feel about this?
Well I’ve got some good news and some bad news for you…
The good news is that I’m friends with Lloyd Lester and one thing I have noticed about him that is quite similar to me is that he is also NOT a doctor
And he got this one wrong. If you lost 30% of your zinc when you ejaculated, then ejaculate 4 times and you’d have a few seizures and drop dead on the spot. That’s not even close to an accurate number.
That said, zinc is used by your body for lots of things including the production of testosterone and you should have it in your diet or take a supplement. I hope it’s obvious that it’s better to get it in your diet (nuts, oysters)…
And your comment that ejaculating is bad for someone with a bad diet is kind of off base — Someone with a bad diet should not avoid ejaculating, they should eat a better diet! Ejaculating is, in any case, generally healthy a couple of times per week.
Now, the bad news is that while, again, I’m no doctor, it is not in any way “normal” to experience these symptoms from ejaculation, but there are a very small number of men who seem to have some ill effects from ejaculation, and nobody is sure why just yet. It’s being called Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome, and again, it is quite rare, and there is no real consensus yet about what causes it or what can be done about it
Right now researchers speculate that it could be anything from psychosomatic to (what sounds promising to me) an allergy to one of the hormones that are released during ejaculation (like prostaglandin).

I just read the email where you list all of the benefits of sex. I noticed that the studies seem to state things men gain from sex, or things that people gain from sex. Are there no studies just on women?

There’s been quite a bit in the science news over the past 10 years about how science frequently runs studies that look at men without seeing if the same science holds true for women (it often doesn’t), and good science for women tends to lag as a result.
And now, I’m the one doing the same thing, and I owe you and my other female readers an apology.
I do tend to serve my men more frequently than my women because it’s a much larger readership (the men’s list began 5 years before the women’s), but in an article aimed at both, this is inexcusable.
Virtually all of these benefits are the same for men and women except, of course, for prostate cancer. Though pregnancy + breast feeding reduces the risk of breast cancer, and can be seen as a result of sex!
Also the issue of improved bladder control and continence is more of a women’s issue and women see a greater benefit than men from regular sex
As for cardiovascular diseases, stress, better sleep, immune function, and psychological well-being… YES, more sex and more orgasms (they both correlate independently of each other, so sex without orgasm and orgasm through masturbation both count) result in better health and a better life.

Hey Betsy, I can’t prove this, but what I notice, and I’m coming to believe is a very real pattern, is that the higher you keep your standards, the more you hold out for “the one,” the easier it is to find a great man (or woman, for that matter).
